Meet Your Host

Hi my name is Sammy Cooper – and together with my husband and team of staff, we welcome you to SC Holiday Homes.

I am a busy Mum of 4 children, and have lived in Orkney all my life. I grew up in up in St Margaret’s Hope and my husband grew up in Stronsay – one of the outer isles. We spend a lot of time exploring the outdoors here, from local parks, beaches and lots of water activities to walking trails and hidden gems to search for Groatie Buckies. I have a deep practical knowledge of the island and I love sharing my knowledge so that guests can experience our island the way locals do.

As a local entrepreneur, I’ve been operating Coopskee Cleaning Orkney for 8 years, specializing in providing top-notch cleaning services for self-catering providers. In 2023 I expanded into management, drawn to the particular satisfaction this role offers. With my deep local knowledge, dedication to outstanding housekeeping, and genuine enjoyment of interacting with tourists, managing these properties feels like the perfect fit.

My passion for detail shines through in my approach to self-catering management. From meticulously overseeing each changeover to personally handling laundry to ensure everything is done to perfection, I prioritize the comfort and satisfaction of every guest.

Under the banner of Coopskee Cleaning Orkney, I’ve built a team of skilled staff, all trained to uphold my high standards. With their commitment and expertise, every changeover is executed with utmost care and attention to detail.

The self-catering homes I oversee are of a higher standard, surpassing the basic expectations. This dedication to excellence is something I take great pride in.

Above all, I strive to create an ambiance where guests feel as though they’re stepping into a true home away from home.

  • Beautifully decorated apartment within easy walking distance of the centre of Kirkwall. Delighted that the owners had left supplies for tea and biscuits on arrival.

  • The accommodation is within walking distance of Kirkwall’s sightseeing attractions, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, and so on, and also for the bus station and ferry terminal. The apartment is just lovely. A fully equipped kitchen with everything needed to prepare/cook meals. Upstairs, there is a nice dining area. The living-room area is spacious and light/airy with comfy armchairs and a nice big telly. The two bedrooms are also of a good size. Both have masses of storage space. Really comfortable beds with attractive bed linens. The bathroom is also top-notch. It’s a spacious room with a bath that is easy to get in and out of and a powerful shower with plenty of hot water. The entire apartment is spotlessly clean. The apartment has attractive furnishings and is very well presented. We had a fabulous time staying at Avondale. If we’re ever lucky enough to visit the wonderful Island(s) of Orkney again, this apartment is where we would want to stay.

  • The accommodation was fantastic. Really lovely cottage, spotless clean, just 10 minutes from the ferry and just under 15 minutes from Kirkwall – it was perfect. I’d definitely recommend it for any other trips business or pleasure !

  • We had a fabulous stay at Havrock, there were all the amenities that we could have wished for and more. The property was very comfortable and warm and was a real home from home. 
    The bungalow is in a great location, it was convenient for walking around Kirkwall and, by car, it was not far to the local historic and wildlife attractions.
    Our hosts were really thoughtful and helpful and responded promptly to any queries. 
    I can highly recommend this property and should I get the opportunity to return to Orkney, I would certainly book it again. Loved it.

  • We had a fabulous week in the cottage – very handy for all parts of the mainland and for the ferry for trip to Hoy. The garden is one of the best locations to spot short eared owls and hen harriers which was appreciated by the birders in our party. Cottage was very comfortable and well kitted out.

  • We had a magnificent few nights in this quiet little home situated on the southern side of the Orkney mainland. Sammy our host kindly provided a number of amenities which we very much appreciated.

    The home has a cosy and comfortable living room with a very comfortable sofa set and large screen TV with multiple streaming services available, so the evenings were very enjoyable.

    Despite the distance from the more busy parts of Orkney, we took advantage of the nearby bus stop and were able to materialise a very comprehensive trip itinerary without ever needing a car.

  • A lovely little two bed cottage style house with a large kitchen / dining room leading into a garden with eating area. The weather was wonderful so we were lucky to get out around the island and the cottage is located only 12 mins from Kirkwall with easy access to the rest of the island and ferries to hop around the isles which I would recommend. Very clean and a lovely welcome package on arrival including milk in the fridge.

  • Sammy was amazing. An attentive host. Loved the place it was so clean and smelt beautiful. Very spacious, pictures don’t do it justice. And you can just about see the sea from the kitchen window. A perfect place to stay. We would 100% book with here again.

  • My family and I stayed at Tofts for 4 nights, and we were blown away by how great the accommodation was. The house was spotless, the beds were incredibly comfortable, views were impeccable and Sammy and Lana were very helpful. We were looking forward to the stay after seeing the photos on the Air B&B listing, however once we arrived we were overjoyed as it is even better in person. Both myself and my family could not recommend Tofts enough.

  • Beautiful, spacious house with lovely beds. Private garden and great views! The only downside I can think of is that the dolphins and orcas didn’t show up! In theory, you should be able to see them from the kitchen window!

  • We stayed at Studio House for 4 nights. Inside the house was perfect, spotless and very stylish.
    The downstairs is lovely but the bedroom upstairs is wow. We got ready for our wedding there and it really felt like a bridal suite. Beautiful, light & airy and modern. Looking out over the harbour from the comfy bed, and waking up to see the sea was fabulous.

  • The location is ideal…right next door to a great provisions store and walkable to all the main shopping & dining district. The large living room with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooks a private garden, which was a treat to come “home” to at the end of a long day of touring. Kitchen was large as well, offing plenty of space for 4 people.

  • We had the most incredible four-day holiday in this beautiful, spacious home! The views of the North Sea are simply breathtaking, providing a constantly changing panorama that was a joy to wake up to and relax by. The house is beautifully decorated and has everything you could possibly need for a comfortable stay.

    For those who enjoy fishing, the location is fantastic! We were able to access some fantastic fishing spots nearby, which really added to the enjoyment of our trip.

  • We were in Kirkwall for three nights. The house location was perfect, only a few minute walk to the restaurants and shops. Upon arriving at the house, there was a book explaining how everything worked and had recommendations for restaurants and sightseeing. Beds were very comfy and the house was a good size. Would definitely recommend staying here!

Easy access to and from the ferry with fabulous views over the Harbour. Sammy was a great host and very quick respond and also provided clear instructions for everything.   • A perfect AirBnB experience from start to finish.

    Spotlessly clean, very well equipped and very nicely decorated, I loved my stay here and quickly thought of it as ‘home’ when I was out exploring the islands. I could imagine myself living here!

    Very quiet and private, with spectacular sea views out the back, yet only a ten minute drive to Kirkwall.

    Instructions were clear and self check-in was very easy.

    I wouldn’t hesitate to book here again next time I’m in Orkney.

  • If this is available for your stay, I highly recommend staying here. Two minutes from St Magnus, restaurants, taxi companies, the local bus / Travel Centre AND you get a view of the Harbour and a walled garden next door. We stayed over a week and loved everything about it.

Great restaurants and local attractions within easy driving distance, but also on the main bus route with reasonably frequent buses into Kirkwall, Stromness and beyond. Large enclosed garden on a peaceful corner plot with views over fields at the back of the property. Sammy was friendly and responded quickly to messages. Would highly recommend and wouldn’t hesitate to book again.
